About the firm

Founded in 1988 to deliver quality search with a strong service orientation.

Our professionals become an extension of the client's management team, representing them as such throughout the engagement and beyond — an approach that has encouraged repeat business for more than three decades.

Our approach

Why retained search

A retained engagement means both parties have skin in the game. Your search receives dedicated resources and consistent attention rather than competing against easier assignments in a recruiter's queue, and the relationship behaves like a partnership instead of a transaction.

That focus shows up in the work: a written specification agreed in advance, a disciplined and confidential approach to the market, candidates who are screened and verified rather than forwarded, and a consultant who stays with you through offer, negotiation and on-boarding.

Distinguishing qualities

What clients tell us sets the firm apart.

Videoview®

Videotaped interviews allow your search committee to see candidates beyond their resume presentation. Videoview® helps manage the finances and human resources associated with a search, and a secure link allows each candidate's Videoview® to be screened online by your search team.

Expert skills dedicated to you

Over thirty-five years of executive search experience. The Nutter Group is recognized as a trusted and professional advisor on the search process. Senior leadership searches have included CEO, COO, CFO, CIO, CLO, CMO, CHRO and other key positions.

Never Compromising Service®

Our approach is to become an extension of your staff, serving you as a member of your team. We communicate regularly and candidly, advising you on the dynamics of the search and the leadership team you wish to create. We are sensitive to your deadlines and flexible enough to modify our process to the unique needs of your organization.

Responsive to unique client circumstances

Although traditional search remains our primary focus, we have retooled our services to offer cost-effective search and talent acquisition alternatives — better managing expenses while maintaining a thorough process and a strong candidate pool. This alternative also provides a reduction in professional fees when a client refers a candidate.

National recognition, small firm advantage

Our goal is not to increase the quantity of clients we serve but to provide a quality search effort to each of them, which we accomplish by managing the firm's growth. We avoid the conflicts of interest that occur when multiple searches are conducted by larger firms with restrictive hands-off requirements, giving the Nutter Group access to a broad universe of candidates.

In our clients' words

Boards, CEOs and human resources leaders on working with the firm.

“As chairman of the search committee, I especially appreciated the professional expertise you brought to the search. You are to be especially congratulated on your ability to steer the process to a successful conclusion without upsetting any of the hospital's search committee. Your process in presenting the applicants to the search committee was very efficient yet thorough. The videos were very helpful.”
Board Chair — Southeast Client Hospital CEO Search
“I would like to thank you for the quick and efficient way you came in and evaluated our needs, and then quickly presented eight quality candidates to us. The selection of highly qualified people made it possible for us to fill our vacant Chief Executive Officer position in under ninety days, something I didn't think would be possible. I won't hesitate to use your group in the future and would highly recommend your group to anyone doing an executive search.”
Board Chair — Rural Community Hospital CEO Search
“We retained the Nutter Group and the leadership of Roger Nutter to find a VP for Nursing to replace a retiring executive. Nutter has a methodical, well-organized process, and is very efficient. Midway through, I was impressed enough with his approach and his network to ask him to help us find a Medical Director for our new health center project. Over a period of about seven months, he helped us fill two very important positions. We found his fees to be competitive and probably a value compared with the other retained firms we've used or considered. I would definitely use him again.”
CEO — Freestanding Midwest Community Hospital
“I want to thank you for the outstanding job you did in recruiting our Director of Marketing and Public Relations. The position had been open for a year before you took over the search and within a few months we had a great slate of candidates. We especially appreciated the opportunity to use the Videoview® tool that you provide, which made selecting candidates for on-site interviews so much more efficient.”
VP Human Resources — Southeast Client Hospital Key Leader Search
“Thank you for assisting the medical center and filling the need for a Vice President for Patient Care Services. All of our dealings were professional, and your expertise was evident from my initial contact with you. Our process moved efficiently, and the result has been most satisfactory. The use of Videoview® was a differentiating factor in our decision to utilize the Nutter Group.”
President & CEO — Midwest Client Hospital CNO Search
“The service that the Nutter Group provided our retirement community as we searched for a CEO is greatly appreciated. I look back upon the search process as essentially positive, yielding several excellent candidates, any one of whom probably would have served the Community very well. I especially appreciated Videoview® and the savings this technique provided to the entire search process.”
Board Chair & Province Coordinator — Southern Faith-based Continuing Care Retirement Community CEO Search
“Simply put, we could never have done anywhere near as thorough a job as we did without your assistance. We have been very pleased with our new president, and in retrospect we felt you brought to us a strong group of candidates. I, personally, found you to be very efficient, timely in your response to all of our requests, and very easy to work with.”
Search Committee Chair — Midwest Faith-based Continuing Care Retirement Community CEO Search
“I would like to thank you for two recent management placements you have made for our medical center. I know these were very hard searches because we tried several months on our own and were unsuccessful. You brought us some excellent candidates from whom to choose. We look forward to working with you in the future.”
VP Human Resources — Southeast Faith-based Teaching Medical Center

Client protection

“Hands Off and Blockage” Practice

The Nutter Group complies with long-held search industry standards pertaining to recruiting former placements and key employees of current clients. Specific guidelines are listed below.

The Nutter Group will not recruit individuals who are considered “placements” with a client. Should the candidate contact the Nutter Group and express interest in a specific position, the placement will be advised of the firm practice that a placement is “hands off” forever. If unique circumstances exist, such as changes in ownership, management reporting relationships or job responsibilities, the placement will be asked to obtain written permission from the client, who then releases the Nutter Group from the “hands off” restriction.

The Nutter Group will not intentionally recruit key employees from a current client. A current client is defined as a client who has concluded a search assignment with the Nutter Group and will remain a current client for one year past the conclusion of the search (hire date of placement).

Should an employee of a current client contact the Nutter Group and express interest in a specific position, he or she will be advised of the firm's “hands off” practice for current clients. If unique circumstances exist, the employee will be asked to obtain written permission from the client, who then releases the Nutter Group from the restriction.

A client relationship exists with the organization that engages the Nutter Group for a search assignment. The “hands off” and “blockage” restrictions do not extend to system sponsors, corporate owners or affiliated organizations in locations other than the client's immediate market.

Every attempt is made to openly discuss with clients these practices and issues of concern pertaining to placements and employees of clients. The Nutter Group also honors the confidentiality concerns of individuals who may contact the firm, whether with a current client or not.

The Nutter Group believes long-standing relationships with clients and candidates are better maintained when all parties understand these guidelines.

The Nutter Group maintains its database and omits placements and employees of current clients to keep them from being contacted by phone, direct mail or email. When mail lists are rented, attempts are made to remove placements and employees of current clients before distribution. Some list providers distribute directly from their own database, and occasionally a placement or employee of a current client inadvertently receives an announcement of a career opportunity.

Let's talk about the leadership you need next.
